About the Business
Our workshop is set in the idyllic setting of Foston Mill and in the heart of the countryside at the edge of the Derbyshire Peak District, Thomas Hotchkiss produces a range of furniture made entirely from solid oak. Thomas prides himself in the fact that the furniture made in his workshop will be around for generations to come because of the time honoured way the pieces are made. All the joints are traditionally produced - from the dovetailed drawers to the haunched mortice & tenons.
Thomas has always had an interest in wood and furniture ever since he was at school; in 1989 he commenced a time served apprenticeship with a well respected furniture maker before embracing his own business in 1994. Thomas has always displayed his furniture extensively at various agricultural and rural shows around the country and since 2006 opened a showroom in Tutbury where examples of Thomas' furniture can be seen.
